Humans are creatures of habit. Most of us hate change. We are so used to our schedules, the foods we eat, and the products we use. We have committed ourselves to certain products because we have used them all of our lives. Or perhaps the commercial had our favorite actor or musician advertising it.

Lately, there has been a huge move to organic products especially organic deodorant and natural antiperspirants. Before, you were considered a hippie or wild if you preferred organic deodorant over “conventional deodorants.” Why do we even use organic deodorant?

Is this organic trend out of control? Do organic deodorants and natural antiperspirants even work? Or do you smell and you do not even realize it?

Why Do We Need Deodorants & Antiperspirants?

Deodorants are used on the body to prevent and avoid body odor!

We use deodorant because we stink! Or because we don’t want to stink. The smelly smell we smell is bacteria which is caused by perspiration.

Common places for deodorant usage are armpits, feet, chest, and forehead! Deodorant and antiperspirants are different from one another. Antiperspirants are usually applied only on the armpits and underarm area.

The point of antiperspirants is to stop sweating and prevent odor. Antiperspirants are categorized by the FDA as Over the Counter Drugs while Deodorants are considered a cosmetics product. Deodorant has been around since the late 1800s.

The first deodorant was created in 1888. By 1903, the first antiperspirant was created and formulated. They created a new patent for this product because there was a previous issue with aluminum chlorides and extreme skin irritation in existing deodorants.

Interesting issues with aluminum! We will learn more about the dangers of aluminum later on…

Natural deodorant for men and women. Stop using deodorant that contains toxic chemicals and heavy metals that make you sick and stain your cloths.

Do Only Women Need Deodorant?

False! When deodorant was initially marketed, only women were focused on. It wasn’t until the 1940s that companies expanded their focus to include men and male users.

Studies show that over 50% of men were already using deodorant by this time. By the 1960s, aerosol antiperspirant became popular and over 50% of antiperspirants sold were aerosol.

By the 1970s, that number had increased to over 80%. However, in 1977 the US FDA banned aluminum zirconium which is the active ingredient used in aerosols. Their concern was inhaling the products over a long amount of time, like for example using an aerosol antiperspirant everyday for your entire life.

The EPA also limited chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) chemicals that are used in aerosols. These type of chemicals contribute to ozone depletion. There are many harmful ingredients that were and are in deodorant and antiperspirants now.

Why haven’t most of us made the switch? What is inside these products that are so dangerous?

Ingredients inside Common Deodorant

Please note that these are ingredients that are often found in common or commercial deodorants. These are not the ingredients found inside organic deodorants or natural deodorants. Most deodorants are alcohol based.

Fun fact: Alcohol actually stimulates and gets the sweating process started. It temporarily kills bacteria that is created by the sweat.

Alcohol based deodorants make you sweat so that it can eliminate the odor that happens when you sweat. This seems very odd and backwards to me…we put on deodorant and antiperspirant so that we do not sweat and smell.

Yet, common deodorants are triggering sweat and smell in order for it to work.

Active Ingredients include:

sodium stearate, sodium chloride, stearyl alcohol, acid, ammonium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, formaldehyde, aluminum chloride, aluminum chlorohydrate, aluminum zirconium tetrachlorohydrex gly, aluminum zirconium trichlorohydrex gly, zirconium, propylene glycol, potassium alum

The Dangers Inside Commercial Antiperspirant

There are many active ingredients that are in commercial and commonly known antiperspirants and deodorants. Active ingredients that are especially dangerous are aluminum chlorohydrate and  aluminum zirconium.

These ingredients are added into antiperspirants to stop you from sweating. They literally block your glands and prevent you from creating and secreting sweat. You may think that to not sweat and to not get sweaty is an incredible idea and a wonderful innovation. However, these active aluminum ingredients are linked to many dangers and gene instability/mutations.

There have been linked cases of breast cancer and Alzheimer’s. These dangers are not worth it!The risks attributed to using commercial antiperspirants and deodorants are not worth the health risks. But we still need deodorants and antiperspirants.

No one wants to be known as the smelly person at work or at school or in general! For too long organic deodorant, natural antiperspirant, and natural deodorant have gotten a bad reputation that they do not work as well. However, that is not true! There are many great organic products that work!

Do Organic Deodorants Even Work?

Finding the correct organic deodorant is just like finding a commercial, chemical filled deodorant. There is often much trial and error which results in some smelly days.  It can be a very stinky situation for both you and others.

The point of using non toxic, organic deodorant is to eliminate the amount of harsh chemicals we expose ourselves too. The chemicals and toxins that are in many deodorants cause skin irritation and discomfort. The skin on our underarms is quite delicate and does require tender love and care. However, no one wants to be the smelly friend or risk being told that they do not smell fresh as a daisy.

There are many great organic and natural products available. These organic deodorants and natural antiperspirants actually work!  They are the best organic deodorants available that are safe to use and are non toxic.

What Makes Organic Deodorant and Natural Deodorant Safer?

Where to start? First off, natural and organic deodorants are made with different types of ingredients. They are formulated without harsh and toxic chemicals.

They are also made with natural bacteria. It is important that when choosing an organic deodorant, natural deodorant, or natural antiperspirant, always make sure that they are formulated without the following:

  • Parabens: Disrupts hormonal and endocrine system. It is linked to both breast and prostate cancer.
  • Aluminum & Aluminum Compounds: Aluminum is the most commonly used active ingredient in deodorant and antiperspirants. Exposure to this dangerous ingredient includes Alzheimer’s disease, affects estrogen levels, and is linked to both breast and prostate cancer.
  • Silica: A commonly known skin irritant, it causes allergic reactions. It is also linked to cancer.
  • Triclosan: Labeled by the FDA as a pesticide! Yet, this is one of the main ingredients in most commonly known and commercial deodorants. When it is combined with water, it creates chloroform which is an extremely carcinogenic gas.
  • Talc: There is a chance that talc can be contaminated with asbestos. These asbestos fibers cause cancer as well as respiratory issues.
  • Propylene Glycol: This chemical causes central nervous system damage, also liver and heart damage. It is extremely irritating to the skin especially for those with sensitive skin. Unlike some ingredients that show dangers are high levels, only 2% of this ingredient can cause damage. However most commercial deodorants use around 50% propylene glycol.  Studies have shown that this chemical can be very toxic for children.  Link to study.
  • Steareths: Produces carcinogens and dioxanes, dioxanes are flammable and toxic when heated.
  • TEA (triethanolamine) & DEA (diethanolamine): These two chemicals are banned from European products. They are carcinogens that destroy your liver and kidneys. There are many things that they are made without to make them safer. The harmful ingredients listed above are known and suspected carcinogens. But what is inside these organic deodorant and natural deodorant products that make them work.

How Does Organic Deodorant Work?

We have learned how commercial antiperspirants work. They use active aluminum ingredients to block sweat from occurring. Natural and organic Deodorant work completely different. Natural and organic deodorant do not block sweat. Natural and organic deodorant actually kill and eliminate the bacteria. It is the bacteria that causes the smell. By neutralizing the bacteria, natural and organic deodorant products stop the odor from occurring. There are also natural, active ingredients in natural and organic deodorant that absorb the sweat. These ingredients absorb the excess sweat and wetness. These types of ingredients are: arrowroot, baking soda, kaolin clay, cornstarch. These are some of the best organic deodorant ingredients. There are many great organic deodorant ingredients you should look for now that you know what to avoid.

Organic Deodorant Ingredients You Should Look For:

When you are scrutinizing your deodorant labels, these are the ingredients you need to be looking for. We know what to avoid now…but what is the good stuff? We need to know what ingredients to look out for when choosing the best organic deodorant for our bodies.

Good Ingredients:

  • Aluminum Free Baking Soda: Neutralizes odor and absorbs moisture! This is also known as sodium bicarbonate. Always use aluminum free baking soda. Baking soda can be too much for those with sensitive skin and may disrupt your PH. So please take note of that when deciding on a deodorant that uses baking soda.
  • Kaolin Clay: Extremely absorbent! This clay absorbs moisture and has many detoxifying properties. This is safe on all skin types including sensitive skin.
  • Arrowroot: Arrowroot powder is extremely absorbent, very similar to cornstarch. It thickens the formula of the deodorant in sticks and creams and also absorbs sweat.
  • Aloe Vera: Aloe Vera is a strong antimicrobial and antibacterial. It is great on sensitive skin. It kills bacteria so you do not smell. It is also an anti-inflammatory
  • Cornstarch: Similar to arrowroot powder, kaolin clay, and baking soda, it is used to absorb sweat. It is extremely absorbent and prevents you from smelling. There are so many benefits to using organic products and eating organic foods. These are facts. When we can, we need to make the switch to organic products. If you are curious about the benefits of using organic deodorant, keep reading.

Benefits of Using Organic Deodorant:

We know that deodorants with ingredients like parabens, sulfates, and aluminum are bad for us and quite harmful to our health. Many of the common ingredients that are used in commercially made deodorants are linked to cancer. Organic deodorants are safer to use and work just as effectively to prevent sweat and smell.

  1. Organic deodorants are made of natural ingredients like shea butter, aloe vera, tea tree oil, rosemary, lavender, and lemongrass. These ingredients help you to stay fresh and also soothe and repair the skin. Many of these ingredients have natural anti-bacterial properties
  2. Organic deodorant is made without aluminum! Instead they use natural and safe ingredients like witch hazel which helps with body odor and smell because it kills bacteria
  3. Organic deodorant has no artificial ingredients and fragrances. Since they are made without harmful ingredients, they are safe for use on sensitive skin. They will not cause skin irritation or flair ups.
  4. Organic deodorant will not ruin your clothes! Too many shirts are ruined by non-organic and non-natural deodorants. Aluminum compounds create the yellow stains you see on your underarm area of your shirts.

Of course some products may work better for others, so it is important to know both sides.

Some Organic Deodorants and Natural Antiperspirants May Work Better For Others

It’s true. There are some products that will work better for some than others. It is important to be aware of your sensitivities. Also, some have more powerful body odor than others and could be left feeling stinky. Whenever you are trying new products, it is always best to them to see if you are sensitive to the ingredients.

There are some natural and organic deodorants that work better for some. It is due to the natural and organic active ingredients. At the end of the day, it is best to listen to your body and choose the right formulation that works for you without causing irritations.

An ingredient that may cause irritation is:

Baking Soda: This ingredient is a great deodorizer, meaning it prevents smell from occurring. However, it can be very powerful, almost too powerful. Those with delicate and sensitive skin may find it is to powerful for their underarm area.

The underarm has very delicate skin. If you notice any irritation, you may want to try a natural or organic deodorant that does not contain baking soda. Instead opt for an organic deodorant that has ingredients like kaolin clay or even cornstarch.

These ingredients absorb sweat like a natural, organic sponge! These ingredients will definitely feel nicer on the skin and will not be as harsh as baking soda. When choosing your next natural deodorant, always make sure to go with a deodorant without aluminum.

There are many great natural deodorants without aluminum that actually work and aren’t very expensive.

Best Deodorant for Women & Men

Everyone needs deodorant. We are all humans so the fact that commercial deodorants are created only for men and only for women are ridiculous.

We need deodorants that are safe to use and actually work without risk of causing harm. Aluminum free deodorant is the way to go.

This also makes it much easier to purchase because you only need one type of deodorant for your family. Of course, everyone needs their own, but it is quite unnecessary for deodorants to be made for a woman, but strong enough for a man. Sounds like nonsense to me! Deodorants should be safe, non toxic, and aluminum free. These are the best deodorants for both men and women.

Stop! Look & Listen! If your baby is under 6 months it is recommended to keep your baby out of the sun.

I am not a doctor or a dermatologist, but per the American Academy of Dermatology and the Skin Cancer Foundation, they state that babies under 6 months have little melanin in the skin which makes them very susceptible to skin damage.

Skin damage is very serious at any age!

Many baby boomers are seeing the negative effects that their past sunscreen habits have caused. Their lack of sunscreen usage has caused them to have skin cancer, melanoma, sun spots, and other sun caused skin conditions. And for what? To have a sun kissed glow?

Parents and guardians need to think about sun protection for their babies. Choosing the correct natural sunscreen and organic ingredient sunscreen based on your needs is quite important. It is even more important when you are dealing with the safety and protection of your loved ones…especially kids and babies!

There are a lot of considerations to take into account when choosing the correct kid sunscreen that will protect from harmful rays. There are many benefits for using sunscreen on your kids as well as yourself.

Benefits of Using Kid Sunscreen

  1. Sunscreen is sunscreen. There is no difference from adult sunscreen and kid sunscreen. It is only important that it is applied and of course reapplied when needed
  2. Sunscreen protects from harmful UVA and UVB sunrays
  3. Helps protect from premature aging like wrinkles and fine lines
  4. Lowers risk of skin cancer like melanoma
  5. Prevents Sunburns and sun damage which weakens the skin
  6. Protects skin from tanning and harsh UVB rays
  7. Encourages healthy skin because it is protected by sunscreen

How to Choose the Right Sunscreen for Your Kids

There are many types of kid sunscreens so it is important to pay attention to the labels. One tip would be to choose a sunscreen that is a broad spectrum sunscreen. This means that it will protect your face and skin from harmful rays. These would be UVA and UVB rays that we talked about previously.

Another consideration when you are choosing a natural sunscreen or organic sunscreen is to have SPF in mind. You should think about how long you will be in the sun, what types of activities will you be doing, and also if your sunscreen needs to be water resistant. First, let’s look into what makes up these products like SPF for instance. Is there a difference from using SPF 30 to SPF 50 or more?

What Exactly is SPF?

SPF stands for sun protection factor. It basically is a measurement that lets you know how long a sunscreen will work. You may have noticed on many sunscreens, the label states the SPF. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, we all need to use minimum SPF 30.

If you have pre existing melanoma or skin cancer, you should use a higher SPF since you are very susceptible.

This is one of the situations where bigger (or more) is better. We used to think that a tan meant that you were healthy. In actuality, a tan is a sign of DNA damage and cell mutations. It is important to keep in mind that just because you are using a high SPF, that doesn’t mean that you can be in the sun all day without a care in the world. The sun is extremely powerful and needs to be respected. That means that sunscreen and appropriate habits are needed.

How Much SPF is Needed in Kid Sunscreen

The truth of it all is that no matter which sunscreen you use, there is no sunscreen that exists that blocks out 100% of the Sun’s rays. Using a broad spectrum sunscreen can help block out a good amount but not all of the Rays. Also, super high SPFs do not work better than SPF 30 or even SPF 50.

See below for the various levels of protection from SPF. As you can see, after SPF 30, there is a slight increase in protection. But even with SPF 100, it still doesn’t block out 100% of UV rays. When choosing kid sunscreen or baby sunscreen, always choose broad spectrum kid sunscreen. Also, use minimum SPF 30 when choosing a kid sunscreen.

SPF

15 – Blocks 93%

30 – Blocks 97%

50 – Blocks 98%

100 – Blocks 99%

Now that we have learned which SPF to use when picking out a safe, kid sunscreen, it is important to review what type of ingredients we should be avoiding and also which ingredients we should use and look for when picking out a safe baby or kid sunscreen.

Stay Away from These Ingredients In Kid Sunscreen

The following list are ingredients that should be avoided when choosing a kid sunscreen. These ingredients are harmful and over time can cause more harm than good. Companies have created products that are not safe to use on the skin and are not safe to breathe in.

Many companies have created aerosol sunscreens. These are the worst for you and for your families. Never use aerosol sunscreen for a kid sunscreen option. They have been created out of convenience since they are easily applied. But the chemicals we are breathing in during application are atrocious. Do not use aerosol sunscreen.

Here is a List of harmful ingredients that are found in sunscreens:

  • Parabens
  • Sulfates
  • Homosalate (HMS)
  • OD-PABA (Octyl-dimethyl-para-Amin-benzoic acid)
  • 4-MBC (4-methy-benzyldencamphor)
  • Oxybenzone
  • OMC (Octyl-methoyl-cinnamates)
  • Benzophenone-3
  • avobenzone
  • ecamsule
  • octisalate
  • Octocrylene

Instead of using chemical derived products, we can use natural sunscreen and organic kid sunscreen. These products are safe to use on kids and babies. They are non toxic kid sunscreen options.

Natural Sunscreens – The Better Option for Kids

Natural kid sunscreens are hypoallergenic and safe for all skin types. They contain far less allergen causing ingredients. They cause less skin irritation and skin reactions. We should not have to worry about acne and skin reactions when we are applying sunscreen.

These products are gentle on the skin and are kid friendly. Mineral based sunscreens are far more gentle on babies and kids. Their skin can be very sensitive to harsh chemicals and allergens.

Natural sunscreen products are made with better and safer ingredients. They are formulated with various minerals and natural ingredients to protect the skin. These minerals and safe ingredients protect your skin from harmful UV rays. These safer ingredients do not permeate the skin like other chemical sunscreens.Natural sunscreens are more effective because they are actively blocking harmful UV rays.

Also, the better ingredients help to nourish and hydrate the skin. They are actively protecting our skin.

But natural sunscreen is not considered organic…but why?

Is Organic Sunscreen Safe?

Unfortunately, Sunscreen is not organic. There is no such thing as a fully organic kid sunscreen. Even mineral based natural sunscreens are not technically organic. There are many very sneaky marketing geniuses out there that like to use the word Organic on their products. So technically speaking, titanium and zinc oxide do not contain any carbon. Carbon is necessary in order for it to be organic matter. Since it has no carbon, it cannot be considered organic.

What you can check for is that the majority of the ingredients are natural ingredients. More importantly that they are organic ingredients. There are certain natural sunscreens that you can find that are made with a certain level of organic ingredients.

There are many types of organic ingredients or naturally derived ingredients that you can look out for when you are choosing a kid sunscreen.

What Are The Ingredients in Natural Sunscreen?

There are a few natural minerals that are used to create natural sunscreens. These mineral based sunscreens are a great alternative to chemical sunscreens. They do work a bit different than the chemical sunscreens we are used to. They do not soak into the skin and break down quickly. The white spots are sunscreen that might not totally rub into the skin. You can always use non nano mineral based sunscreen. Non nano helps the natural sunscreen rub on the skin easier. It makes the natural sunscreen more sheer which helps eliminate the white spots.

Zinc Oxide

Incredible anti viral, anti bacterial, and anti inflammatory properties. This ingredient is a godsend. It is extremely healing and great for all skin types. It is safe for those who have acne and sensitive skin. Zinc Oxide is great at fighting UVA and UVB rays.  It is a very white mineral and is an active ingredient in mineral based natural sunscreens.

Titanium

Effectively blocks UV rays without absorbing into the skin. It works with zinc oxide to protect your skin against UVA and UVB. It helps to boost the efficacy in its UVB protection.

Cocoa Butter

Moisturize your skin with cocoa butter! This ingredient is extremely moisturizing and hydrating. It protects the skin from drying out and leaves your skin feeling smooth, supple, and soft.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree Oil is a antiseptic and also stimulates blood flow. It pumps your damaged skin full of nutrients and the vitamins it needs to repair itself.

Vitamin E

Combat free radicals and environmental factors with Vitamin E! Vitamin E protects the skin and prevents sun damage from occurring.

Avocado Oil

Not only protects the skin, it also provides it with hydration and relief

Sesame Oil

Not just as a part of a salad dressing, this Oil combats UV rays! It has UV resistance percentage of 30

Aloe Vera

The ultimate ingredient if you are suffering from a sunburn or skin reaction. Aloe Vera is incredibly soothing, providing instant relief when applied. It helps to speed up the healing process by encouraging cell growth.

Green Tea

Green Tea is full of antioxidants! These antioxidants protect the skin from environmental factors that try to permeate the skin. The antioxidants in green tea help to protect the skin and skin cells.

Grape Seed Oil

This oil is also full of antioxidants! Grape seed oil helps to protect the cells of the skin.  The top two ingredients to look for in natural kid sunscreen are titanium and zinc oxide. These two ingredients are mineral based ingredients and are used in most natural sunscreens.

Rinse & Repeat! These are the instructions that are found on the commercial shampoos that we have been purchasing for years. In the recent years, there has been a switch from the items we have been using for years and now consumers want better products.

The demand for organic shampoo and conditioner is huge. Many companies have come up with their own products and claim that they are natural. There is a term that we all need to become familiar with when it comes to choosing the right organic products.

This term is called “green washing” which is a very sneaky process that many companies use. Companies can claim that their products are made from natural and organic ingredients but are actually formulated with irritating ingredients.

The ingredients that some are using are not safe, they are toxic, and irritating. This is extremely dangerous because many with sensitive skin are looking for the best organic shampoo and conditioner and are being fooled.

There are many options and products that are actually organic shampoo options.

  • These organic shampoos are made with organic ingredients.
  • These organic shampoos do not have harsh cleaners and detergents.
  • They also do not have ingredients that form the foam that we associate shampoos and other cleansers with.

Not all organic shampoos with work for some depending on your specific hair type, any specific skin condition, or colored hair. We will get into specifics later on which we recommend. It is important to be on the lookout for ingredients to avoid. There are many ingredients that should not be in organic shampoo and conditioner. Avoid that product if it contains certain harmful ingredients and is not a safe shampoo to use.

Quick History of Shampoo?

Shampoo exists in countries all over the world. Throughout the years, different cultures have learned so much from one another.

Through this sharing of information, shampoo had developed and become what it is today. The word shampoo comes from a Hindi term, dated back to 1762 from the colonial era.

In India, they used various herbs and extracts.  The earliest version of shampoo was made of dried gooseberries and other herbs.

This combination creates an extract that is used on the hair leaving it soft and shiny. This type of soap is even referenced by Guru Nanak who is the founding prophet and first Guru of Sikhism.

The colonial traders that were in India loved this “champu” or shampoo. They took what they learned back to Europe and began calling it shampoo.

In 1814,  Sake Dean Mahomed opened the first commercial shampoo vapor bath. It was advertised as a type of Turkish bath, called “The Indian Mediated Vapour Bath.”  It was said to cure diseases and provide relief.

In Europe, they boiled shaved soap with herbs to provide shiny hair what was fragrant and smelled nice. They were definitely inspired by India. By the 20th century, shampoo was available for all. In 1914, advertisements showed young women washing their hair. By 1927, liquid shampoo was invented in Berlin by German inventor, Hans Schwarzkopf.

India and Europe were not the only ones with their only form of shampoo. In Indonesia, shampoos were made using rice husks and ashes which are alkaline. These ingredients were mixed with water and would leave the hair clean but was very drying. Early shampoos were followed with coconut oil as their organic conditioner.

The Indonesian people seemed to know so much since they already knew the value of coconut oil. Unfortunately, for a while, we used harmful ingredients for our shampoos.

What are Traditional Shampoos Made of?

Commercially created shampoos are made with sulfates. They are normally made with sodium Lauryl sulfate and sodium Laureth sulfate. They are usually combined with cocamidopropyl betaine. This combination makes a liquid that is very thick and has a lot of viscosity.  SLS and SLES are harmful ingredients. They are carcinogens and are not safe to use.

They are not safe for babies, children, or adult users. There are many ingredients that are banned from shampoos because they pose health risks. They are allergens and are toxic. The USA bans 11 ingredients, Canada bans 587, and the EU bans over 1328. It seems that Canada and the EU are protecting their citizens from dangerous, harmful ingredients.

The US and FDA have not done their job in protecting its citizens from harmful, skin irritants. It is up to consumers to be knowledgeable about what ingredients to avoid and which organic shampoos we should be using as alternatives. It is time for us to flex our power and make the best choices for us and our loved ones.

Dangerous Ingredients To Avoid in Non Organic

There is such a big concern about the ingredients that are in our

food. These items go inside our bodies but what about the ingredients that we put on our bodies.

The ingredients that are in non organic shampoo and conditioners are dangerous.

Sulfates -Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), Ammonium Lauryl:  Sulfate, and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) are considered detergents. They strip the natural oil from your hair leaving it dry and lacking moisture. Sulfates are surfactants which means they lower the surface tension.

They are an extremely commonly used ingredient in most non organic shampoo products. Sulfates damage the hair, making it weak, and frizzy.

They also cause allergic reactions. Sulfates create the bubbles and lather that we associate getting clean with. Sulfates are a carcinogen and have toxic effects on the body.

Parabens:  Another extremely dangerous and hazardous shampoo ingredient. Parabens are used as a preservative so that bacteria doesn’t grow in shampoos and cosmetics products.Parabens are linked to forming breast cancer cells since they mimic estrogen.

Sodium Chloride:  This is a fancy word for salt which is used to increase the viscosity of the shampoos and conditioners. This is basically used to thicken the consistency of the shampoo. But, if you have sensitive skin, this results in itchy and dry scalp. It is also very irritating and can hurt the eyes. This ingredient is linked to hair loss.

Polyethylene Glycols (PEG):  This ingredient is used as a thickening agent. It is extremely contaminated with other byproducts like ethylene oxides and 1,4-dioxane.

DEA and TEADiethanolamine and Triethanolamine are also foaming agent. Their job is to reduce the surface tension so that ingredients can blend together. There is a direct correlation between these ingredients and cancer based on studies done by researches in 1998. However, the FDA says that they are okay to use despite the alarming evidence proving otherwise.

Formaldehyde:  This is by far the most alarming and most frightening ingredient that is used in non organic shampoo and conditioners. Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen that has been proven absorbs into the body through the skin.

Companies use this product because it is a preservative. Companies are very sneaky and use other names like quaternium-15. USA has not banned formaldehyde and it is used for many Brazilian blowout treatments.

However, the EU has restricted formaldehyde in personal care products. Countries like Sweden and Japan have banned it completely in all cosmetics and personal care products. It is unclear what the USA is waiting for, perhaps the money in their pockets discourages them from doing the right thing and protecting its people.

Alcohol:  Another extremely common ingredient in non organic shampoos. Alcohol is so drying, so it is best to not use products with it included. They are usually listed as propanol or isopropyl alcohol.

Synthetic Fragrances:  Whenever you see this listed, RUN! Fragrance is just a nice word that means full of many hidden chemicals. Perhaps even thousands of hidden , harmful chemicals. These harmful chemicals cause cancer and other health issues. This is an ingredient that is illegal to use in Canada, parts of Asia, and the EU. But still is in use in the USA.

Dimethicone:  type of silicone and sis a form of plastic. If you wonder why your hair looks and feels greasy, it is because of this ingredient. It weighs the hair down, losing all volume, and moisture. This clogs the pores on the scalp and head which causes irritation and acne.

Triclosan:   Has been banned to use in antibacterial soaps but is still allowed in non organic shampoos, deodorants, and toothpaste. This ingredient is linked to cancer, causes development problems in babies, and hormone disruption.  Triclosan is also detrimental to the environment and to aquatic life.

Retinyl Palmitate: A extreme skin irritant that causes redness and peeling. It is also linked to cancer and organ toxicity.

Cocamidopropyl Betaine:  A trick ingredient used in “natural” shampoos. It is usually mixed with dimethylaminopropylamine in order for the shampoo to be foamy. However this causes skin irritation, eczema, allergies, and redness. Do not be fooled by the non organic shampoos that claim to be “natural” but instead are full of irritants.

Non Organic Shampoos and conditioners are irritants, dangerous, and are down right harmful. There are so many benefits in using organic shampoo and conditioner. Switch from toxic products to non toxic, organic shampoo today!

What are the Benefits of Organic Shampoo and Conditioner?

Where to start? It is important to reiterate that using other non organic shampoos are dangerous. By using non organic shampoos and cosmetics products, you are allowing dangerous chemicals into your body.

Organic shampoos and conditioners are a great idea. They are very easy to find, easy accessible, and are not much more expensive than the traditional shampoo products you are used to.

Organic shampoo and conditioner do not irritate the scalp. They do not cause redness, itchiness, or dry out hair like traditional shampoos do.

Organic shampoo and conditioner can help bring your hair back to life!

The ingredients are so much better in organic shampoo and conditioner. Quality ingredients make a huge difference when it come to your health and the products you use.

Organic shampoos infuse your hair with natural oils, extracts, and minerals. Organic tea tree oil is often used which helps with skin conditions like dry scalp, dandruff, and overall scalp irritation.

Non organic shampoos do the opposite. They strip the hair of oils, leaving the hair frizzy and dry.

Organic shampoo and conditioners also have natural moisturizers that help with healthy hair growth and overall shininess. Ingredients like aloe vera, coconut oil, and organic Shea butter are used which enhances hairs natural shine.

Another benefit of using organic shampoo and conditioner is the impact on the environment. Organic shampoo and conditioners are biodegradable. They do not hurt the environment the way that the harsh chemicals from traditional, toxic shampoos do.

At the end of the day, we need to think about our impact on the environment, our impact on our loved ones, and of course ourselves.

We have control to do the right thing and make the best choices for our future, it is our time to do the right thing.

Protect that beautiful skin of yours with natural sunscreen!

Our skin is so important. It is the largest organ in the human body. It is also the most neglected.

For years we have contributed to negative skincare habits. Many of us, myself included, would go without sunscreen because we wanted to be tan. Or worse, slather our bodies with baby oil and mineral oil instead of using sunscreen.

Now so many of us suffer from sun spots, melanomas, and even skin cancer. These skin conditions are terrible and they can all be prevented. Start using natural sunscreen today, you won’t regret it.

Why Should We Use Natural Sunscreen?

You need to replace your toxic sunscreen and immediately switch to natural sunscreen. We are becoming more and more conscious. We are realizing the products we once used are dangerous and harmful to our health.

Awareness is key!

Do not accept these toxic products any longer. Switch to natural sunscreen for you and your loved ones. Natural sunscreen is great because it is formulated without harmful ingredients and harsh chemicals.

These harsh chemicals are dangerous to your health and can cause conditions like cancer. Skin cancer is actually the most common form of cancer that people get in the United States.

According to the Center of Disease Control & Prevention there are over 67,000 skin cancer diagnoses every year in the United States. The writing is on the wall, we all need to use sunscreen. Our ozone layer continues to deplete every day, exposing us to more and more dangers.

Where to start! Natural sunscreen will protect your skin.

It will protect your skin from sun damage and sun spots. Use natural sunscreen to fight the signs of aging. Too much sun causes wrinkles if you do not protect yourself. The signs of aging can be helped by using face sunscreen and natural sunscreen. Use natural sunscreen to prevent wrinkles and for more youthful skin.

Natural sunscreen also helps to fight skin conditions and diseases.

All Natural Sunscreen Vs Chemical Sunscreen

Natural sunscreen is different! Things that are different don’t have to be weird, they can be great!

Natural sunscreen is formulated differently than regular sunscreen. There are many ingredients that set it apart. First off, natural sunscreen is formulated and created with better ingredients. They are less likely to cause an allergic reaction.

Natural sunscreen is formulated so that they are hypoallergenic and safe for use on all skin types. Natural sunscreens have better ingredients that help to hydrate and protect the skin, while still being gentle. Natural sunscreens are non comedogenic so they will not clog pores and cause acne like toxic, chemical sunscreens.

Toxic, chemical filled sunscreens are terrible for you.

They are extremely harmful and dangerous. They are full of harmful and dangerous ingredients. Many of the ingredients in chemical sunscreens are cancer causing and can cause many health conditions. Many of them are endocrine disruptors which means they mess with the hormones in your body.

This makes chemical sunscreens especially dangerous for babies and children.

They are extremely dangerous for these groups because they are growing, changing, and full of hormones. Too often, young children and babies are being diagnosed with cancer.

We are realizing that the food we put in our bodies, the products we put on our bodies, all are exposing us and our loved ones to carcinogens. We have to do better, if not for us, but for our loved ones and future generations.

Why Natural Sunscreen Is Better For Your Skin

Apply once and forget about it!

Too many times we have to reapply when we use chemical type sunscreens. If you forget to reapply, there is a chance of a sunburn or sun damage. Natural sunscreen is better because you do not need to reapply. Natural sunscreen doesn’t absorb into the skin the way that toxic chemical sunscreen does.

Natural sunscreen protects the skin better because you do not need to reapply and it stays on the top layer of the skin protecting the skin from UV rays. It does not permeate and absorb into the skin. This is why chemical sunscreens are so dangerous.

The toxic and harmful ingredients permeate the skin and remain there!

Natural sunscreens are also hypoallergenic and safe for all skin types. They contain far less allergen causing ingredients. They cause less skin irritation and skin reactions. We should not have to worry about acne and skin reactions when we are applying sunscreen.

The point of sunscreen is to protect it, not to cause it more harm. Switch to natural sunscreen to no longer punish your skin.

Ingredients in Natural Mineral Sunscreen

There are a few natural minerals that are used to create natural sunscreens. These mineral sunscreens are a great alternatives to chemical sunscreens.

They do work a bit different than the chemical sunscreens we are used to. They do not soak into the skin and break down quickly. The white spots are sunscreen that might not totally rub into the skin.

You can always use non nano mineral sunscreen. Non nano helps the natural sunscreen rub on the skin easier. It makes the natural sunscreen more sheer which helps eliminate the white spots.

  • Zinc Oxide – Incredible anti viral, anti bacterial, and anti inflammatory properties. This ingredient is a godsend. It is extremely healing and great for all skin types. It is safe for those who have acne and sensitive skin. Zinc Oxide is great at fighting UVA and UVB rays.  It is a very white mineral and is an active ingredient in mineral sunscreen powder.

  • Titanium – Effectively blocks UV rays without absorbing into the skin. It works with zinc oxide to protect your skin against UVA and UVB. It helps to boost the efficacy in its UVB protection.

  • Cocoa Butter – Moisturize your skin with cocoa butter! This ingredient is extremely moisturizing and hydrating. It protects the skin from drying out and leaves your skin feeling smooth, supple, and soft.

  • Tea Tree Oil – Tea Tree Oil is a antiseptic and also stimulates blood flow. It pumps your damaged skin full of nutrients and the vitamins it needs to repair itself.

  • Vitamin E – Combat free radicals and environmental factors with Vitamin E! Vitamin E protects the skin and prevents sun damage from occurring.

  • Avocado Oil – Not only protects the skin, it also provides it with hydration and relief

  • Sesame Oil – Not just as a part of a salad dressing, this Oil combats UV rays! It has UV resistance percentage of 30

  • Aloe Vera – The ultimate ingredient if you are suffering from a sunburn or skin reaction. Aloe Vera is incredibly soothing, providing instant relief when applied. It helps to speed up the healing process by encouraging cell growth.

  • Green Tea– Green Tea is full of antioxidants! These antioxidants protect the skin from environmental factors that try to permeate the skin. The antioxidants in green tea help to protect the skin and skin cells.

  • Grape Seed Oil – This oil is also full of antioxidants! Grape seed oil helps to protect the cells of the skin

Toxic Ingredients in Sunscreen to Avoid!

The following ingredients should be avoided at all cost. If you see these ingredients listed on your chemical sunscreen, you shouldn’t use it. If not for you, do it for your loved ones.

The following ingredients are dangerous and harmful. Please be aware of what you choose to use and apply on your skin and the skin of your loved ones. Also, avoid aerosol sunscreens. Always use a lotion or cream instead. Aerosol sunscreens are full of chemicals that we breathe in during application.

  • Parabens
  • Sulfates
  • Homosalate (HMS) – Major hormone disruptor for both Men & Women. Disrupts the endocrine system
  • OD-PABA (Octyl-dimethyl-para-Amin-benzoic acid) – Disrupts the thyroid and the endocrine system. Thankfully are less used in sunscreens
  • 4-MBC (4-methy-benzyldencamphor) – Causes thyroid toxicity and  also disrupts the endocrine system.
  • Oxybenzone – This causes skin irritation and phtooallergic reactions. It is also an endocrine system disruptor.
  • OMC (Octyl-methoyl-cinnamates)
  • Benzophenone-3
  • avobenzone
  • ecamsule
  • octisalate
  • Octocrylene

What about Organic products? What are good tips for choosing an organic sunscreen?

Is That Really Organic Sunscreen?

Sunscreen is not organic. Even mineral sunscreen is not technically organic.

There are many very sneaky marketing geniuses out there that like to use the word Organic on their products. So technically speaking, titanium and zinc oxide are not made of or contain any carbon.

What you can check for is that the majority of the ingredients are natural ingredients. More importantly that they are organic ingredients. There are certain natural sunscreens that you can find that are made with a certain level of organic ingredients. We have gone ahead and done the leg work. Below are some of the best sunscreens that are made with mostly organic ingredients.

Best Chemical Free Sunscreen:

Below is our list of the top 2 brands and products for natural and organic sunscreen.  We have researched the ingredients and 3rd party quality control to find the best natural sunscreens on the market.

This product is cruelty free. The ingredients are very nourishing to the skin. The packaging itself is made from #2 recyclable plastic and is BPA and phalate free. This is a great unscented sunscreen cream for the whole body.

We need to switch to mineral based natural sunscreens. Our choice to use toxic sunscreens is affecting the environment. Not only is our ozone depleting, but the ocean is dying.

Chemical Free Sunscreen Saves the Environment:

Poor coral reefs. Chemical sunscreens are so dangerous to coral reefs and marine life. Ecosystems are all about balance and chemical sunscreens are disrupting that fragile balance.

It is devastating environments and we are at risk of losing coral reefs forever. Coral is made from something called calcium carbonate. It is the home for tiny algae that is a food source for the coral. It is the algae that gives coral the beautiful colors that we think of.

Dangerous ingredients like Oxybenzone are bleaching the coral and disrupting the balance. Oxybenzone is an endocrine disruptor for for coral too! Oxybezones are killing coral reefs, leaving our oceans desolate. This is more of a reason to switch to a mineral based sunscreen.

Using a natural sunscreen benefits you and also benefits the environment. Save your skin, save coral reefs, use natural sunscreen.

We have to remember to have respect the natural bodies around us like the ocean and the sun. They are very powerful and have more strength and effect on our lives and bodies than we can see. The sun for example is extremely powerful and should be respected and considered before we leave the house each day.

Ultraviolet Light:  Why we should care?

Most kids when they were young, drew their sun with little sunglasses. Or at least I did. I always thought the sun was my friend and it was good to be out of the sun.

Vitamin D is good for you, but of course in moderation and with proper protection.

We are not impervious to skin cancer. More and more Americans fall victim to skin cancer each year. It is important that we realize how powerful the sun is and the types of sun rays that exist.

The sun reflects various types of rays which include:

  • UV Rays – Ultra Violet
  • X-Rays
  • Gamma Rays
  • Cosmic Rays
  • Visible Rays – ROYGBIV (You don’t remember ROYGBIV? Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet)
  • I.R. Rays – Infra Red
  • Radiowaves
  • Microwaves
  • But, there are three types of of UV Rays that the sun emits. These UV rays are UVA, UVB, and UVC.

Types of UV Rays

Ultra Violet rays have the potential to be very dangerous and damaging to our skin. They all affect the skin differently.

Facts on UVA Rays

  • UVA Rays are responsible for over 95% of the radiation that reaches Earth
  • Culprits of sun spots & wrinkles
  • Causes sunburns
  • Ages skin prematurely
  • Overtime cause skin cancer
  • Strong link between UVA rays and cancer
  • Permeate the top layer of skin, reaching the dermal layer which damages the tissues
  • Are responsible for tanning since they stimulate the cells that darkened the skin
  • UVA Rays are used in tanning beds

Facts on UVB Rays

  • Causes skin cancer
  • Causes most sunburns and skin irritation/redness
  • Damages the epidermis (outer layer of skin or top layer of skin)

Facts on UVC Rays

  • By far the most dangerous
  • Used in man made sources like Mercury lamps and welding torches
  • Were used in tanning beds
  • Not a main culprit of skin cancer

Choosing the Best Sunscreen for Face & Body:

Choosing the correct natural sunscreen and organic sunscreen based on your needs is quite important. There are many types of sunscreens for your face and body so it is important to pay attention to the labels.

What Does SPF stand for?

SPF stands for sun protection factor. It basically is a measurement that lets you know how long a sunscreen will work. You may have noticed on many sunscreens, the label states the SPF.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, we all need to use minimum SPF 30!

If you have pre existing melanoma or skin cancer, you should use a higher SPF since you are very susceptible. This is one of the situations where bigger (or more) is better. We used to think that a tan meant that you were healthy. In actuality, a tan is a sign of DNA damage and cell mutations.

Why We Should Choose SPF 100?

The truth of it all is that no matter which sunscreen you use, there is no sunscreen that exists that blocks out 100% of the Sun’s rays.

Using a broad spectrum sunscreen can help block out a good amount but not all of the Rays. Also, super high SPFs do not work better than SPF 30 or even SPF 50. See below for the various levels of protection from SPF. As you can see, after SPF 30, there is a slight increase in protection. But even with SPF 100, it still doesn’t block out 100% of UV rays.

SPF 15 – Blocks 93%

SPF 30 – Blocks 97%

SPF 50 – Blocks 98%

SPF 100 – Blocks 99%

Tips For Sun Protection:

We are all going to be in the sun so we need to be prepared to protect ourselves. There are many things that we can do when we are in the sun to protect our skin.

It doesn’t matter if you are only in the sun during summer or if you live in a sunny area year round. Everyone needs to protect their skin.

  1. Apply sunscreen for face and body before you are in the sun
  2. Use a broad spectrum sunscreen to protect from both UVA and UVB Rays
  3. Use a natural sunscreen
  4. Use a mineral based sunscreen
  5. Drink water! The sun is hot and draining, hydration is key
  6. Wear a hat!
  7. Wear your favorite sunglasses!
  8. Use coverups and specially designed UV protective clothing
  9. Don’t forget your parasol or beach umbrella!
  10. Limit your time in the sun! Even with your protection, try to be aware of how long you are in the sun. Peak sun hours where the sun is at its highest potency is between 10AM to 4PM.

Life is all about balance. Except when it comes to a great natural face moisturizer! There are some things we should all use in moderation…like desserts, alcohol, or going out in the sun. But somethings…I say the more the better!

There is nothing like an amazing natural face moisturizer that can turn your skin from dull to awesome!  The secret to amazing makeup and a beautiful makeup look is gorgeous skin. For many of us, including myself, having perfect skin doesn’t come naturally. But like all great things in life, with a little effort and time, anything is possible! Although sometimes we need a bit of nagging and push in the right direction!

I do not like being told what to do, what to like, how to be. But when it comes to natural face moisturizer and taking care of my skin, I shut up and listen. Around 18 years old is why my mom really turned up the nagging. Mostly, when it came to using natural face moisturizers.

There are so many benefits to using natural face moisturizers. Our skin is the largest organ in the human body. It is also the most ignored and neglected organ. We all need to use natural face moisturizers because they are made with quality ingredients that are not harmful to our skin and bodies.

Why use Natural Face Moisturizers?

One of the many reasons why we should all use natural face moisturizers is due to the ingredients. The makeup and beauty industry goes very much unregulated by the FDA. Harmful ingredients continue to be used in many makeup products. They are used because they are cheap and companies are more concerned about their bottom line then the health of their customers and harm that their products could be causing.

It could be negligence or just straight up greed. Whatever the case is, it is up to us as consumers to be aware of what is in the products that we put on our face and bodies. Our skin takes in everything that we put in or on it. This includes absorbing all of the negative and harmful ingredients.

The FDA states that the level of phthalates, Sulfates, Parabens, formaldehyde, and other artificial ingredients are safe since the amount that is present is small.  Studies have shown that these ingredients absorb into the skin and over time can be harmful and cancer causing. Nowadays, cancer is much too common.

Everyone knows at least one person that has cancer or has past away from cancer. This isn’t a coincidence. Cancer is caused by environmental factors like what we eat, what we drink, and what we put on our bodies. None of us are immune, so we must do our due diligence and be aware. We need to start making better choices and that starts with used natural makeup and natural face moisturizers made with real ingredients. We need to start Thinking Clean!

What to Look for When Shopping for Natural Moisturizers:

Natural makeup has become a recent trend. Many companies have been jumping on the bandwagon. However, just because a label says the term natural, doesn’t mean that the ingredients are safe or clean.

Some companies use the term natural but the ingredients are artificially manipulated. There is a difference between organic/clean makeup and what is simply good marketing. If you are ever confused, turn the packaging around and see what makes up your favorite makeup products.

It is always a bad start when you cannot pronounce anything. When you are looking at the cute packaging (I’m a sucker for cute packaging), there are a few things you should be on the lookout for. These will be your keyword triggers.  With this information, you will know if this is something you should be using or something you should be staying away from.

Good Face Moisturizers:

  • Formulated WITHOUT (Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates)
  • Certified Organic – Anything that is certified organic is bonafide! There are very strict rules and regulations when it comes to being certified organic. In order to be certified organic, a high percentage of the ingredients must be pure and organic.
  • Vegan – This means that the product is created without animal by products. This usually means that the product you are using is cruelty free and is not tested on animals. If your makeup product has beeswax or any type of dairy or animal by product, it is not vegan.
  • Gluten Free– Gluten is not only about food. Many who suffer from gluten allergies or gluten sensitivities, should use gluten free natural face moisturizers. Many products are not gluten free, but some natural makeup products are.

Ingredients like Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil, antioxidants, are all ingredients that you want in your natural face moisturizers and safe, natural makeup.

Bad Face Moisturizers:

The following are toxic skincare ingredients that should be avoided when choosing natural face moisturizers or natural face makeup products

  • Paraben: Are found in too many skincare and makeup products. Parabens are linked to breast cancer, fertility issues, and reproductive issues.
  • Sulfate (SLS or SLES): Major culprit of allergies, skin irritation, and skin reactions. Stay away from sulfates if you have sensitive skin!
  • Phthalates: Keep products with this harmful ingredient far, far away from children. They are linked to birth defects and are endocrine disruptors. The endocrine system is responsible for all the hormones and glands that carry these hormones that keep the body in balance. Think thyroid, hypothalamus, pituitary, pineal, adrenal, ovaries for ladies, and testes for men.
  • Lead: Found mostly in lipsticks and lip glosses, lead is a neurotoxin. This means that it is a poison that attacks the nervous system, which is the network of nerves that is inside our bodies that helps us to coordinate our actions and movements. Lead is a heavy metal, it has been removed from paint, yet is still in lip products. Pretty weird reasoning if you ask me!
  • Formaldehyde: Not only is it a carcinogen (cancer causing), it is linked to neurotoxicity and Asthma.  A study found that 20% of moisturizers contained a preservative with a formaldehyde releasers.
  • Synthetic Colors & Synthetic Fragrances: If synthetic colors or fragrances are listed, these cause allergic reactions, hormone disruption, and other serious health problems.
  • BHA or BHT: These toxic ingredients are Cancer Causing & linked to liver damage which can affect our other organs from functioning properly.
  • Retinol & Retinyl Palmitate: Also known as Vitamin A, this is one that is quite surprising but very important that we are aware of the negative effects. It is linked to increasing the growth of tumors especially in the areas where it is applied. It may damage DNA, it is not recommended if you are Apregnant, nursing, or trying to get pregnant. There is nothing scarier as a soon not be parent, to find out that things that you are doing is dangerous for your soon to be child. Parents try and work so hard to protect their children, yet can be doing things subconsciously to sabotage all their hard work and efforts.

There are many other harmful ingredients that are included in makeup products. These ingredients cause skin irritation, acne, and clog pores. If you have oily or combination skin, you should look into non comedogenic makeup and non comedogenic moisturizers. There are many non comedogenic moisturizers that are safe to use and have SPF!

Non Comedogenic Moisturizer with SPF:

Protect your skin with SPF. There are many great non comedogenic moisturizers on the market that will protect your skin meanwhile not cause acne or breakouts. I believe in using products with SPF everyday. I also live in California where we have sunny weather pretty much year round. However, even if you live in cloudy areas, you still need to protect your skin!

The sun is unforgiving and skin cancer is real. Some of us will age better than others and that is due to SPF and proper moisturization. Even if you think you don’t need to, you should put on SPF daily. To make it extremely easy, switch to a non comedogenic moisturizer with SPF.

Many products have SPF have a bad reputation of being super greasy and oily. However, that is not the way anymore. There are many great products that do not clog pores or leave you with greasy skin. Below are some of the best non comedogenic moisturizers available!

Why Paraben Free Moisturizers are Safe?

There are many frightening additives and ingredients in skincare. One harmful ingredient is Parabens. Parabens are found in facial lotions, moisturizers, shampoos, conditioners, and other cleansers. Parabens are very dangerous, they cause development issues, endocrine issues, cancer, and much more. To learn more about the dangers of Parabens, follow this link!  To avoid these dangers and harmful ingredients, only use the best paraben free moisturizers available.

If we truly love our families and our loved ones, we need to stop using moisturizers with harmful ingredients like Parabens. There are many paraben free moisturizers that have SPF that need to be used daily. Protect your skin and the skin of your loved ones from parabens and harmful UV rays.

We have to change our buying habits. We no longer can buy the same products we have used for years on end because they are dangerous. If you don’t want to make the change for yourself, then you make the change for the loved ones in your life.

What Makes Tatcha Cleansing Oil So Great?

There are so many Tatcha skin care reviews out there especially for Tatcha cleansing oil and other top products. Tatcha skincare is a very well known company. Are the products as good as they are everyone says? What makes them so special? Which of the Tatcha skin care reviews actually is giving an honest opinion? Is Tatcha cleansing oil as good as people say? Are there any negative aspects? There are many opinions about Tatcha Skincare and why they are so popular. If you are interested in only trying the top products offered by Tatcha (including Tatcha Cleansing Oil) then you have come to the right place. Tatcha skin care reviews may be hyped, but there may be a good and just reason as to why they are so popular. Let’s learn a little about how Tatcha skincare started and where the inspiration comes from.

Source: Link here

Tatcha Skincare: A Quick Look

Tatcha skin care was started by a woman named Victoria Tsai. She is the CEO and also the founder of the skincare company. Victoria worked in beauty before starting the company. She actually worked for a company that launched their products in China. However, she used many of these products on her own skin which accused her skin to have a reaction. She ended up getting acute dermatitis which causes your skin to have a very red, irritated rash that is very painful.

There was nothing Victoria could do about her condition, so she decided to take things into her own hands. There had to be better and safer ingredients  for beauty products. On a trip to Kyoto, Japan, Victoria was inspired. She was inspired by the culture and the beauty of Geishas. In Japan, geishas are the epitome of beauty and elegance. Their skin is beautiful, luminous, and the closest thing to perfection. All of the geishas beauty secrets had been passed down orally for over 300 years. Eventually, in time, Victoria came upon a Japanese Beauty Guide that was written over 200 years ago. In it, it detailed (in Japanese of course) the secrets of how to have beautiful, flawless skin. This became her holy grail! But what did she discover, what was the secret behind their beautiful skin? What message did she realize from this 200 year old beauty book?

The Mission Behind Tatcha Skin Care

Geishas believed that the secret to beauty was to keep it simple. Whatever we put into our bodies, we should put on our skin. This means that the ingredients should be natural, clean, and safe. The reason why our skin has reactions like that similar to Victoria’s, is due to all the harmful ingredients that are pumped into makeup and beauty products.  All of Tatcha Skincare products are formulated without Phthalates, parabens, sulfates (SLS & SLES), coal tar, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, Oxybenzone, and synthetic fragrances.Instead of using cheap and harmful ingredients, they have replaced them with simple ingredients like:

  • Japanese Wild Flowers
  • Abaca Leaf
  • Green Tea
  • Red Algae
  • Seaweed
  • Rice Bran
  • Oatmeal

There are other ingredients that are used to create the various Tatcha skincare products. But first let’s see wait makes them so special so we can decide if they are truly worth our money.

Tatcha Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil

==> Available on Amazon!  Free Shipping! Click here.

Tatcha cleansing oil is made of Camellia Oil. Japanese Camellia Oil is also called Tsubaki. It has more oleic acid than olive oil. It is rich with Vitamins like A, B,D, and E. It is also rich in Omegas 3, 6, and 9. This oil is extremely hydrating and has many antioxidants. Just because it i labeled Tatcha cleansing oil, doesn’t mean that it is not for those with oily skin. In fact, Tatcha cleansing oil is ideal for all skin types. Oils are actually great ways to naturally clean your face. The oil in Tatcha cleansing oil actually helps to maintain the natural oils that our skin has. Just like everything in nature, it is all about balance. Tatcha cleansing oil leaves your face feeling very hydrated and doesn’t leave your face feeling oily. It is non comedogenic which means it will not clog your pores. Tatcha Cleansing Oil is a 2 in 1 makeup remover and skin cleanser. It is powerful enough to remove waterproof makeup, yet still gentle on the skin leaving it silky soft. There are many benefits of Tatcha Cleansing Oil and that is due to the natural ingredients.

The Benefits of Tatcha Cleansing Oil

Tatcha Cleansing Oil is a great purchase for someone that is looking for a strong yet gentle makeup remover. It is also great for all skin types. It is made with natural, safe ingredients so it will not cause skin irritation. Tatcha Cleansing Oil is also non comedogenic and does not clog pores. It is also cruelty free. Use Tatcha Cleansing Oil if you suffer from dry skin and you are ready for your skin to be hydrated and silky soft. It also is a great anti-aging makeup product. Tatcha Cleansing Oil could be the answer for beautiful, youthful, glowing skin. Say goodbye to fine lines and wrinkles, and say hello to refreshed and balanced skin.

How does it all work, what are the ingredients that are used to formulate such a product?

What’s Inside Tatcha Cleansing Oil

Only the best! Tatcha cleansing oil helps balance the natural oils of the skin while cleaning and taking off your makeup. It hydrates the skin without leaving it feeling oily. But how does it do this? What exactly is used to make this cleansing oil that all skin types can use?

Camellia Oil: A Japanese ingredient, it is full of antioxidants. It has Vitamins A, B,C,D, & E and also Omegas 3,6,9. Camellia oil is very moisturizing and is very rich in oleic acid. Oleic acid is great for dry skin and has anti-inflammatory properties.Geishas used to use the oil from the seed of the camellia flower to remove their stage makeup without it drying or irritation of any kind.

Hadasei-3: That is Tatcha’s trio of Japanese superfoods ingredients, which are Uji Green Tea ,Okinawa Mozuku Algae, and Akita rice. They have anti aging properties and help with skin radiance.

These simple ingredients pack a powerful punch. They help with aging and moisturize the skin. They are natural ingredients that do not cause skin irritation. Now that you know what it can do for your skin, how do you actually use Tatcha cleansing oil?

How to Apply Tatcha Cleansing Oil

This is suggested, you may apply however you wish and see fit. It is your face and your skin after all. Tatcha Cleansing Oil is safe to use near your eyes and around the eye area. Our eyes and mucous membrane areas are very delicate so it’s great to know that this product is safe to use.

  1. First, start with both dry hands and a dry face.
  2. Use at least 1 pump of product, up to 2 depending on how much makeup you have on or if you have more area to work with. (Some of us have bigger heads than others, okay? And that’s okay). Apply the product into the palms of your hand.
  3. Next, gently massage the cleansing oil into your face and skin using gentle circular motions. Make sure you do not pull your skin especially the skin around your eye area.
  4. Rinse with warm water or a towel with warm water if you wish.
  5. Pat dry to complete your makeup removal and be amazed on how soft and supple your skin looks and feels.

Tatcha Skin Care Review: My Review on Tatcha Cleansing Oil

Oil based anything makes me quite nervous. So at first glance I was quite apprehensive. I wouldn’t say I have overly dry or overly oily skin. But my skin is sensitive and does break out. Hence why I have been doing more research on natural makeup and skin care products. Tatcha cleansing oil is unlike any other cleansing oils on the market. I was able to use this without getting any acne or acne flare ups. This is definitely a product you can use without being afraid of an acne breakout. It even removed my waterproof mascara and eyeliner with ease! There was no irritation and no oily residue left over. The fragrance has to be my favorite part. The camellia fragrance from the Japanese Camellia Oil (Tsubaki) is so welcoming in the morning and evening. It is exactly how I want to start and end my day. I feel refreshed and ready to start the day or go to bed. Tatcha Cleansing Oil has become a staple in my beauty routine. I do recommend using moisturizer immediately after using Tatcha cleansing oil. Your skin may feel dry, but I have found that if I put on moisturizer immediately after my skin feels great. It is always best to Moisturize anyways, so make that a best practice and habit for yourself after you remove your makeup.

If there is any moisturizer that I could recommend to use after using the Tatcha Cleansing Oil, it would definitely be Tatcha Water Cream.

Why Use Tatcha Water Cream After Tatcha Cleansing Oil?

If you really want to see how effective Tatcha products work, then you should follow the Tatcha Cleansing Oil with Tatcha Water Cream. This product is phenomenal! I first learned about this moisturizer when I purchased a value set for the holidays. My life has been changed since! If you are ready for beautiful, youthful, and hydrated skin, then you need to use Tatcha Water Cream. There are many reasons why you should use Tatcha cream moisturizer. First off, it is safe to use on all skin types including normal, combination, oily, and sensitive. It is an oil free product that is non comedogenic. Tatcha water cream helps to minimize pores and helps with uneven texture. If you are looking for a product that will help with your skin’s longevity and anti aging, you should use Tatcha water cream. It does leave the skin feeling moist. Skip primer, Tatcha Water Cream is the perfect moisturizer and primer, all in one!

What is Inside Tatcha Cream?

Tatcha products are inspired by the original beauty icons and gurus, geishas. Tatcha Water Cream uses Japanese wild rose which helps with pore and skin texture.  This ingredient helps with skin smoothness and creating the ideal canvas for your next makeup masterpiece. Japanese wild rose helps tighten pores. Japanese leopard lily (another natural ingredient) helps with excess oil. It also helps with skin purification. Of course the hadasei-3 are in Tatcha Water Cream! These include the trio of green tea, rice, and algae. These incredible ingredients help to restore the skin to its natural radiance and glow. There is even a bit of 23-karat gold in the formulation!

Now that you know what is inside Tatcha Cream…let’s dig into what is not in Tatcha cream

What ingredients are not in Tatcha Cream?

Think clean! Tatcha believes in creating safe, non irritating products. Tatcha water cream is non comedogenic, non irritating, tested by dermatologists, and is cruelty free! It is made without harmful ingredients like synthetic fragrances, sulfates, urea, DEA, and TEA. Both sulfates, SLS and SLES, are not in Tatcha cream. It is formulated without parabens, formaldehyde, Phthalates, mineral oil, coal tar, retinyl palmitate, Oxybenzone, and Hydroquinone.

My Personal Review on Tatcha Water Cream

==>  Available on Amazon!  Free Shipping! Click here.

Like I stated previously, my skin can be quite sensitive. Adult acne is a thing….and I am a victim! Through trial and error, I have tried many moisturizers looking for one that doesn’t cause my skin to have a reaction or an acne breakout. This cream is different! I purchased this in a value set and I immediately purchased the full size product. The smaller water cream is now my travel cream! I love this product because anyone can use it. It is great for all skin types! My skin is looking better and better and I know part of the reason is due to this product. It is a bit pricey, but my happiness and my radiant skin are so worth it. My skin care journey has been up and down, but finally with Tatcha cream in my routine, I have hope. There is also enough product in the Fullsize to last about 3-4 months.

If you are interested in trying out Tatcha skin care products, you can definitely tryout a value set first. This way you can try the product before committing to a full size of the item. There are benefits of purchasing a full size skin care product from Tatcha.

Benefits of Buying Full Size Tatcha Skin Care Products

A beauty company with a heart! Tatcha is a company that gives back and thinks about community. Thank goodness! For over 4 years, for every purchase of a full size Tatcha product, it helps to fund education for young girls. Education is huge and in many areas of the world, schooling for girls doesn’t exist. We are all different, so what may have been a complete success and win for me, may not be the same results as others. Overall, Tatcha skin care is incredible. You can tell immediately, that the skin care products are top quality. The ingredients are not cheap like other skin care products on the market. The price tag for Tatcha skin care products isn’t cheap. But you get what you pay for. If you are willing to shell out the money, your skin will thank you for it. Tatcha cleansing oil in particular is one product that I will continue to use.

If there is any product from Tatcha that I would recommend, without a doubt it is the Tatcha cleansing oil. It is exactly how I like to start my day and end my day. I know my healthier skin is due to the cleansing oil. I especially love how easy it makes removing my makeup without having to rub and tug my eye area. What especially tickles me about Tatcha cleansing oil, is their dedication to community. I know that with my support and purchase, young girl’s in another part of the world get the education that they deserve. We all deserve to have the life we want. It’s time to go organic and for everyone to use only the best organic skin care products available. Many makeup companies are waking up and creating diverse and effective products that actually work! For years we have been treating our skin with skin care products that are doing more harm than we actually realize. It is time we make a change and use only the best organic skin care products available.

For years, we as consumers have been so naive. We have been putting makeup and beauty products on our faces and skin without realizing that they are full of harmful makeup ingredients.

So it important to be able to determine which products are the best organic skin care products, and which are simply Flops!

How to Tell Between the Best Organic Skin Care & The Impostors?

Organic and organic skin care have to do with how the product and how the product’s ingredients are produced. Organic means that it was produced without modifiers and synthetic products. This includes but is not limited to pesticides, fertilizers, GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms), growth hormones, etc. Many companies use the term “Organic” pretty loosely, as different organizations define organic in different ways. So it is important to verify which regulating agency or certifying agency actually certified the product as organic.

The best Organic Skin Care products are made without these harmful ingredients: Sulfates, Parabens, Phthalates, Synthetic Fragrances, Synthetic Coloring, etc. These ingredients have been linked to many health issues including cancer and many other Heath issues.

The beauty industry continues to go unregulated with no change in how things are done because they are in denial. However, they facts do not lie. Testing has shown that these harmful ingredients are dangerous and overtime can be very harmful to our health and the health of our loved ones.

If you see that your favorite or go to makeup product has any of these dangerous, harmful makeup ingredients, stop using it immediately.  Check out products from the best organic skin care brands! Not sure where to start? Keep reading for great recommendations that will change your life and your skin TODAY!

Why is Organic Skin Care so Inclusive!

natural-makeup

There has been such a stigma when it comes to skin care.  Men believe that they can’t use the same products as women because they’re made for women. Perhaps it’s the packaging or the scent. Same thing goes for women, we choose to not use the same products as men because we have our own skin care products and skin care routines.

However, we are all living a lie! We have been immersed in society’s conditioning to buy this or buy that because our favorite actor, model, famous person is promoting it.

It is time for us to break the restraints that society as placed on us and for us to use only the best organic skin care products in our beauty routines. Skin care is for everyone because everyone has skin! We all need to take care of our skin. Our skin is the largest organ in the human body.

The best organic skin care is inclusive as there are no artificial scents or fragrances added. The best organic skin care doesn’t have an overwhelming scent that is too masculine or too feminine.

The amazing ingredients that are in the best organic skin care products are made for everyone to benefit from. Using the best organic skin care products aren’t just for adults either, babies and children would also truly benefit from using the best organic skin care products too. Plus natural and organic skin care products are safe to use on babies and children. Some harmful ingredients have been banned from children’s products because of the harmful effects. But that is still not enough, use natural and only the best skin care for your loved ones. There are many great skin care brands with a wide assortment of products.  Here are some of the best organic skin care brands.

They truly are some of the best organic skin care companies that are available. Use organic skin care to avoid skin irritation, acne, clog pores, and blackheads!  There are many great masks and products available to fight blackheads.

What are Blackheads on the Face?

organic-skincare

Blackheads are gross. Many of us have blackheads now or have had blackheads in the past. Regardless of your situation, they still are unsightly. Blackheads appear on the skin, usually on the face and neck area. Most tend to find blackheads on their nose, well at least I do!

They often are small, but are very dark in contrast to the skin. Blackheads are considered a form of acne–minor and mild acne, but acne nonetheless.

Blackheads appear on the skin and are very dark.  This is due to the melanin in our skin that has oxidized making the pigmentation very dark. Many believe that blackheads are caused by trapped dirt on the face, however that is not the truth. Blackheads are caused by oxidized melanin. Do not attempt to squeeze the blackhead (easier said than done, especially if you have a good mirror that shows every pore). Squeezing blackheads only makes them worse. Do yourself a favor and never pick your skin.

Avoid oil based skin care products to prevent and reduce blackheads. There are many blackhead removal tricks and tips you can try. Somethings work better than others but one thing that always works great is a blackhead face mask.

Our List of the Best Blackhead Face Masks

It is important to remember to never squeeze or attempt to pop a blackhead. You will only make it worse! In order to remove blackheads, it is best to use a specialized blackhead mask. These are specially formulated to extract blackheads safely, clearing up your skin, without drying it out.

Boscia – Luminizing Black Charcoal Mask

==>  Available on Amazon!  Free Shipping!  Click here.

This is a peel off mask by Boscia that contains activated charcoal. It is exactly what you think it could be.  Apply the mask to your face, concentrating on the areas with blackheads. Avoid eyebrows, eye area, and mouth for best usage. If you are sensitive, this may not be the mask for you. Peeling off the mask could cause some skin irritation and could be painful for some. This is a pretty popular mask and is available on Sephora.

Philosophy – Purity Made Simple Pore Extractor Mask

==>  Available on Amazon!  Free Shipping!  Click here.

An incredible blackhead face mask by Philosophy Purity! This formula is applied by massaging the mask into the skin. You must allow it to set for minimum 5 minutes before you rinse the mask off. It is important to use warm water when you do so in order to properly clean/remove the mask.Apply pressure as you see fit, it is your face so you know how much massage pressure you can take.

Origins – Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask

==>  Available on Amazon!  Free Shipping!  Click here.

Charcoal is back again! This is a great blackhead removal mask for the whole face. Available at Amazon, this mask has bamboo charcoal and clay that extract the blackheads and toxins from the skin. Think of charcoal as a big, giant filter, removing all the impurities from your face. Allow the mask to dry before rinsing with warm water.

Our Recipe for The Best Blackhead Peel Off Mask DIY

Perhaps you are hesitant to try one of the recommended blackheads masks. If you love DIY, then this is the type of blackhead mask you need in your life. If you suffer from blackheads, then you know how annoying they can be. Trips to the spa and facials can be very expensive over time. Blackheads stretch out the pore over time so it is best to treat them before they get worse. If you have oily skin, you have a higher chance of getting blackheads. If you have oily skin, an at home DIY blackhead face mask will help you immensely!

Charcoal Mask with Activated charcoal – Yes The Charcoal Band Wagon continues. Activated charcoal is a great way to remove the bacteria and impurities that we have on our faces.Try this mask once a week as you see fit. If you would like, you can step it up to 2x a week depending on your skin type and how it reacts.

DIY Face Mask Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoons activated charcoal
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons finely ground rice flour (white or brown is fine)
  • 1 tablespoon of almond or jojoba or vitamin e oil
  • 2 tablespoons of unscented Castile soap (Dr. Bronner’s)

How To Instructions:

Combine the Castile soap and the oil you are using. Next, add the rice flour, baking soda, and the activated charcoal. Watch as the mixture begins to bubble up a bit. Stir your mixture until it is smooth without bumps and lumps. The texture should be smooth and creamy. Put your DIY mask into a container that has an airtight lid, string in a dry, cool area.

When you are ready to use: Apply water to the face so it is damp but not soaked. Using your fingertips, use about 2 teaspoons of your blackhead scrub on your face. Be careful of your eyes and eye area. Use circular motions and exfoliate your skin gently. Allow the blackhead scrub to dry on your face so all the great oils and beneficial ingredients can absorb into your skin. Rinse away with warm water, use a soft towel to pat your face dry.

Tip: If your blackhead scrub becomes dry, simply add a bit of water and whip it up so it is creamy and smooth again.

How to Know Your Face Cream is Organic?

Knowledge is power. The beauty and skincare realm still goes pretty much unregulated. So it is very important that we not only read the labels that are on our skincare products, but we also understand them. Many companies can use the term “Natural” and still fill the product up with harmful ingredients like Phthalates, Parabens, Sulfates, formaldehyde, and artificial fragrances.

Remember that Natural and Organic are not interchangeable terms. Natural and Organic mean two different things. Just because something has Natural on its Label…does not mean that is 100% Natural or made from organic ingredients. The demand is high for organic and natural products that many companies throw “Natural” on their labels without reformulating their product. If you choose to buy something, you truly scrutinize the label and the ingredients.

What is USDA Certified Organic?

Source – Click here

USDA Certified Organic means that 95% or MORE of the product you are using is created from organic ingredients.  These ingredients are sourced from plants and other truly natural ingredients.  They are actually safe to use on your skin. They are safe because they are not grown with pesticides, harmful fertilizers, toxic environmental factors, bio engineered genes, and are non GMO.

Why You Should Consider Topical Probiotics For Skin Care

There are many benefits to taking probiotic supplements. There are other ways to take probiotics for your skin besides taking supplements. We are continuing to discover that there are many benefits to applying topical probiotics. Topical probiotics for your skin can help with aging, wound healing, acne and acne scars, and also redness and inflammation.  Some studies have shown an improvement in the treatment for Rhinosinusitis.

Probiotics is essentially a type of bacteria (good bacteria) that works to fight against the bacteria that is on our skin that causes redness and acne. Topical probiotics create a barrier wall to protect the skin from these outside influences that cause our skins to react negatively.

The natural antibiotic properties that are in probiotics assist with acne, improve texture, redness, rosacea, bumps, aging, and pimples. Probiotics bring back the balance that is needed in our skin and bodies. They fight the bad bacteria that causes so many problems and help to promote the creation of good bacteria that we need. Everything is about balance. Bacteria gets a bad rap, there is a negative connotation with bacterias. However, probiotics are exactly the type of good bacteria that  we need.

Turmeric for Healthy Skin Really Works

Many of us associate the yellow spice as simply that–a spice used to flavor various foods. For many years, many cultures around the world know that turmeric isn’t just a delicious flavoring but also has healing properties and is a natural cosmetics ingredient. Turmeric comes in many forms. The most familiar would be the ground spice. It also comes in supplement form as well as a natural cosmetics ingredient.

Why Use Turmeric for Skin

There are so many healing properties to turmeric. The health benefits are outstanding. Turmeric has something in it called curcumin. Curcumin is a natural anti-inflammatory and also has antioxidant health properties. There are many benefits to turmeric for skin as a natural cosmetic.

Use Turmeric for Skin Glow

Glow Baby Glow – Maybe it’s magic, or many it’s the antioxidants that turmeric contains. Whatever it is the anti-inflammatory healing abilities bring out a beautiful natural glow to the skin. If your skin is looking a bit lackluster, perhaps trying turmeric could be the secret weapon you’re looking for. Expert Tip: Try a DIY Turmeric Mask! It’s so easy, it can be done at home, and makes the perfect at home face mask. Combine a bit of Greek yogurt with turmeric until it makes an easy to apply paste. Apply to your face and let it remain there for about 10-15 min. It’s always best to avoid the eye area as the eyes can be sensitive to pretty much everything. After the allotted time, rinse with warm water/warm towel. Try this mask before bed after you remove your makeup!

Turmeric for Skin Repair

Heal Your Wounds with Turmeric – Perhaps you cut yourself shaving or have some type of skin wound or cut. Due to the curcumin that is in turmeric, it is a great anti inflammatory and natural healer. Apply turmeric to decrease the inflammation of your skin and help increase the healing process. Cuts will heal faster and the tissue surrounding the area will be healthy.

Turmeric Helps with Acne & Scarring

If you suffer from acute acne or acne in general, you may want to pick up some turmeric the next time you go to the grocery. Or perhaps add it to the list so it gets delivered to your house on your next order. A face mask of turmeric for skin and acne is the answer you are looking for. Turmeric will help reduce acne and acne scars. Since turmeric is an anti-inflammatory, it greatly helps the skin by reducing redness, puffiness, and focuses on the pores to reduce breakouts and clogged pores.

Turmeric for Skin Psoriasis

Turmeric really is a great trick for beautiful skin. Many suffer from psoriasis and other skin conditions like eczema. Turmeric can help control your skin flare ups and help control the symptoms that have been controlling you and your life. Turmeric has great antioxidants and anti-inflammatory healing properties that make it a great natural cosmetics ingredient. There are many ways you can take turmeric. You can try a DIY face mask at home, perhaps try a supplement, or add some to your food.

Are There Risks using Turmeric for Skin?

It would be irresponsible to not list the risks of using turmeric and only listing the benefits. Just like in all cases, there is a balance, a yin and yang. It is important to be cognizant of how much turmeric you are taking and your turmeric dosage. Also, you do not know how you could react to turmeric so it is important to be aware of what other medications you are also taking. It is important to remember that turmeric is metabolized quickly by the human body and that the body will not absorb that much. If you start taking turmeric, either by supplement or adding it into your food, start taking small amounts at first and see how your body reacts.

Turmeric has a beautiful bright color, however that could also stain your skin and nails or at least leave it with a little yellow tint. This is quite normal, do not be alarmed. It may be best to try spot testing your DIY turmeric face mask on other parts of the body before you try your whole face. Perhaps spot test on your hand or arm or leg before you apply to your face. This way you are able to see the consistency of the mask, verify that you are not allergic or will not have a reaction.

If you are allergic to turmeric, please do not put it in your food or on your skin.

What can Probiotics do for Skin & Health?

Probiotics have amazing health benefits. They are live organisms and are technically considered bacteria. Probiotics have naturally been in our system since birth. When we are babies we  are first exposed to this good bacteria during the process of childbirth.

This bacteria is considered good bacteria, it lives and lines our bodies digestive tract.
Probiotics supports the body’s ability to absorb vitamins and nutrients and fight infections. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) states that probiotics are live microorganisms. Yogurt is a food that that contains probiotics. There are many other ways to take probiotics such as dietary supplements and natural cosmetics products.

How Did Probiotics for Skin & Overall Health Come to Be?

Probiotics was introduced in the 20th century by Elie Metchnikoff. He is known as the Father of Probiotics. His research believed that by consuming good or beneficial bacteria or microorganisms that you could improve your health. Humans used to get plenty of probiotics due to their diet. Humans would eat fresh vegetables and foods that were farmed naturally in good soil and used fermenting processes to prevent foods from spoiling. Due to modern advances and agricultural practices, much of our food contains no probiotics and often have dangerous antibodies in them. This is due to the various treatments to “sanitize” our foods.

Since Elie Metchnikoff, researchers have continued to study probiotics and their efficacy on the health of the human body. There are many things that probiotics can treat and may even help prevent. It is important to remember the balance and homeostasis that the many bacteria strains of probiotics bring about.

The Efficacy of Probiotics for Skin

There is a certain balance that is needed on our skin and faces. Our skin has both resident and transient bacteria–meaning good and bad bacteria. When there is an imbalance, the result is acne, irritation, dullness, and skin sensitivity.  When the microflora in your skin is balanced it will be more resilient to environmental threats, restore the pH balance, hydrates skin and maintains softness.

You can take probiotics as a supplement. Only use and rotate using the best high quality, high dosage probiotics. Also, it is recommended to take them both topically and orally when possible. There are also different serums, moisturizers, masks, cleansers, toners, and many other natural cosmetics products. Topical probiotics fight the bacteria that creates acne on your face. It reduces inflammation in the skin and face.

Probiotics for Skin Care Products

Probiotics for skin care products are quite difficult to make and formulate. The formulation itself is quite unstable making it very fragile and hard to work with. You will never see probiotics for skin care products in a clear glass jar. If you choose to use probiotics in skin care products, do your research and buy the best. It is possible to have good results with the proper legwork. If used regularly, topical probiotics for skin care products can hydrate the skin, leaving it softer than you could ever have imagined.

Important Things to Consider

  1. Do not avoid going to the doctor or your health provider and simply take health products like probiotics. It is important to always seek about medical advice before starting a new health product that may be replacing scientifically proven treatments that your doctor will recommend.
  2. Consult your doctor or health provider before taking a probiotic supplement. This is especially true if you have a history of health problems and issues. It is important to communicate with your health provider exactly what other health approaches and treatments you are using. Treatments should complement one another, not take away benefits.
  3. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing. Also if you are considering giving probiotics or any dietary supplement to your child.

Natural cosmetics ingredients are a great way to treat skin irritations and conditions. Many who suffer from acne and acne scars should consider using natural cosmetics ingredients to treat their acne. Just like anything, do in moderation. Test the different treatments on your leg or arm before trying something new on your face. Natural cosmetics ingredients help with skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and acne.

There are many other benefits for natural cosmetics ingredients. It is important to learn about these natural cosmetics ingredients and also the side effects. We are all different and our bodies respond to different things. It is important to be aware of any changes we see and listen to our bodies if something is not working for us.

If you have sensitive skin then you have been dealing with this your whole life. You should really consider makeup for sensitive skin if you face skin ailments and skin issues. It is important to be conscious of the makeup products you choose and that you are choosing products of makeup for sensitive skin. A few decades ago, the makeup for sensitive skin options were extremely limited. Thankfully in this modern day and age there are options for those with sensitive skin that do not cause skin redness and skin irritation.

There are many options of makeup for sensitive skin that not only will not irritate your skin and cause an acne flare up, but also looks beautiful. Many brands can claim to be healthy or claim to be good for our skin, but are made with cheap ingredients. The makeup may look beautiful on your skin a first, but without a doubt it will cause your sensitive skin harm.

When It Comes to Makeup for Sensitive Skin, The Ingredients Matter.

Choosing the proper makeup for sensitive skin is like playing Russian roulette with your beauty routine. You could win big–or you could be blown away (and not in the good way). Our skin is so important and is the first thing that people see and judge us on. It is so important to be conscious and aware of the ingredients that make up our beauty products. There are many ingredients that some people can use without issue, but if you suffer from sensitive skin, you definitely have to stay away from.

Unfortunately that may mean playing a game of trial and error to find out the products and ingredients that work for you and finding which do not. There are many great tips and tricks that can help you choose the correct makeup for sensitive skin that will give you the beautiful makeup look you are going for, without worry of irritating your skin.

Ingredients to Avoid When Choosing Makeup for Sensitive Skin

natural-foundationThere are many ingredients that are included in makeup because they are cheap. Also, the beauty industry and overall makeup industry has gone pretty

much unregulated for many years. The FDA have decided that the levels and the amounts of the ingredients are not technically harmful because they are in small amounts. However, many ingredients have proven to be dangerous and harmful makeup ingredients. If you have sensitive skin, you need to be on the lookout for certain ingredients in makeup for sensitive skin.

  • Fragrances –  Fragrances in makeup for sensitive skin is so bogus. The fragrances are mostly artificial and are directly linked to skin irritation.
  • Alcohol – It is so drying! Alcohol in makeup will cause skin issues and skin irritations. It also includes ingredients like witch hazel and some extracts. If you are choosing to use a makeup with alcohol, be conscious of how your skin reacts over time and usage. Alcohol can also increase the oil production on your skin because it is trying to offset being dried out. This could end up causing you more acne and more skin irritation. Beware of alcohols in makeup for sensitive skin like benzyl alcohol, ethanol, ethyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, etc.
  • Parabens, Sulfates, & Phthalates- These ingredients were first created not for use in makeup, but for household cleaners. They are not meant to be used on the face and skin, but are used in makeup because they are cheap. Avoid these ingredients when choosing makeup for sensitive skin. However, many makeup brands may use other alternate ingredients to substitute these ingredients. The alternate ingredients that are chosen may be just as harmful for your sensitive skin.
  • Be Aware of Your Sunscreen – Now I didn’t say BEWARE of your sunscreen, but to Be Aware. Some sunscreens have artificial active ingredients that cause skin irritation and acne.
Many of us apply sunscreen everyday, whether it be under our makeup, or on our bodies. We also slather our loved ones in sunscreen because we are trying to protect them from UV rays.  Instead of using a sunscreen or a product with sunscreen that has artificial active ingredients like methylchloroisothiazolinone, reach for a product of makeup for sensitive skin that has mineral ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium oxide. These types of mineral active ingredients in the sunscreen are very gentle and can be used on the face, even near the eyes without irritation.

  1. Choose your type of look. What type of look are you going for? What’s your vibe, what’s your style? Are you doing a quick daily school or makeup look? Perhaps a night out? Or maybe even just a simple heading out the door to run errands type of look. Where you are going…what you are doing…what you are wearing…All these factors matter because you should choose what you feel comfortable doing. It’s all about confidence and making sure you feel beautiful. Do not worry about what society things or what others feel you should look like…it’s about what type of makeuplook and overall style that you feel best suits YOU.
  2. Get a process! Become process driven! What means that you should have a beauty routine and regimen and stick with it. It is very important that you begin and end your day with a great

  3. Prep that beautiful face of yours.  Use a fragrance free, oil free, moisturizer for sensitive skin.

the end of the day. “I’m too tired…I’ll just wash my face tomorrow…etc etc” We all do it, but we can’t submit to the excuses anymore…especially if you suffer from sensitive skin. Choose a cleanser that is safe to use to remove makeup for sensitive skin. Reach for a cleanser that has no alcohol so it will not dry out your face and skin. Washing your face takes the excess oils and the debris and dirt that you encounter each and every day.
  5. Choose Hypoallergenic Options! There are many great makeup brands that are creating makeup for sensitive skin. These products are non comedogenic, meaning they will not clog your pores. Many skin care products are natural cosmetics that are made with pure natural and organic ingredients. There are many great ingredients that are full of natural antioxidants that can assist with sensitive skin. They also will not clog your pores! Think of ingredients like pure Shea butter, it is a great natural ingredient and is in many products of makeup for sensitive skin.  By choosing a hypoallergenic, you can almost guarantee that you will not face any skin irrational. It is such a pain to try out numerous makeup products just for them to fail us and cause us to break out. Or worse, cause skin irritation, acne flare up, and redness. Tips When Choosing a Natural Foundation – Makeup for Sensitive Skin

It can be difficult for people with sensitive skin to find the right foundation.  Foundations that cause irritation, rashes or puffiness can have long term damage to the skin.  Using foundations with natural ingredients reduces the exposure to harsh chemicals and synthetics that cause the irritation.  Everyone’s skin type is different and this never a one foundation that will work for all people.  It’s always important to keep these two factors in mind when purchasing your foundation:

  1. Read your labels, avoid certain ingredients if you have sensitive skin. This is of course are the common skin irritants like artificial fragrances and alcohol. They are very common in most makeup products so be sure to avoid these harmful ingredients. Avoid talc also!
  2. Listen to your body! You may notice that some ingredients cause you to have flare ups and some ingredients you are fine with. If you notice a continuous or familiar pattern when it comes to certain ingredients…avoid them! We are all different with different skin issues and concerns so it is important to do what is right for you.

All About Natural Eyeliner

Makeup for sensitive skin is not just limited to your face…there are many of us that suffer from different sensitivities like sensitive eyes. If you have sensitive eyes, they may water profusely. It is important to remember to choose a safe natural eyeliner for our makeup for sensitive skin and eyes. Our eyes are often the first thing that people notice…especially when you lock eyes with someone. It could be a very intimate moment between two strangers….personally I love a good natural eyeliner. During the week I may choose to not wear any eyeliner, but on the weekend, I love to do beautiful, natural eyeliner. There are many ways you can wear your eyeliner, either a dramatic wing liner or a simple natural eyeliner in brown is gorgeous too to accentuate the eyes.

How to Apply Natural Eyeliner

If you have sensitive eyes and your eyes tend to water, it is important to fix that before you apply your eye makeup. With a cotton swab, dab at the watery portion of your eye to dry the area that you will be putting your makeup on. Once the area is dry, you are able to apply a small amount of powder to the area. That way when you apply your makeup, you have a dry surface and your eye makeup and eyeliner will stay.

It is so important to not use harsh products to take off our makeup. Some makeup removers can have harsh chemicals in them which hurt your skin. They can also cause your skin to become very sensitive if it isn’t already. There are so many harsh ingredients in makeup and beauty products like Sulfates, Parabens, and Phthalates.

Use Non Comedogenic Makeup!

We need to take better care of our skin. This means what we put in our bodies as much as what we put on ourselves. We have to be mindful about the various cleansers, moisturizers, foundations, etc that we are using. Many of these items are full of harmful makeup ingredients.

It is important that if you have acne or are prone to acne or skin sensitivities that you should always use non Comedogenic beauty products in every step of your beauty routine. It is so important to use products that will not cause further damage or irritation or even a skin condition.

What is non comedogenic makeup?

Non comedogenic means that it does not clog pores. They are able to create products that are oil free. This is great for those with oily skin or if you are prone to acne or skin irritation. Clogged pores results in acne. Non comedogenic will not clog pores causing acne. It is so important that if you have sensitive skin you choose non comedogenic makeup products. These types of products are less likely to cause skin irritation and acne breakouts.

What Does Non Comedogenic Makeup Mean for Beauty and Makeup Products?

The goal of non comedogenic is to not clog pores and to not cause acne. Our skin naturally creates and secretes oils. Non comedogenic makeup helps to maintain the balance of oils that we need, meanwhile removing the excess oils that clog pores and result in juicy, red pimples.

It is  a great idea to use non comedogenic cleansers to remove makeup and wash your face at the end of the day. It is also great to Moisturize with non comedogenic products as well as other steps in your daily beauty routine like foundations, primers, facial oils, sunscreen, etc.

Are there steps that you could take to have the beautiful, healthy skin that you deserve? If you are curious about getting flawless skin, learn a bit about non comedogenic products!

Everyone gets pimples, some are more affected by acne then others.

You may have first started noticing acne and pimples around puberty. Personally, I never had many pimples as a teenager, but as an adult I have had some issues with acne. Adult acne can be a problem for many unti

l their 40s/50s depending on your skin type. My mom is nearing 60 and she unfortunately still gets acne. There are things that we can do to help prevent acne and there are things that we do that encourage acne and pimples. There are many ingredients in makeup

products and cleansers that actually clog pores and cause

acne. It could be that the face wash you are using is not cleansing your skin at all, but causing you to break out! Or it could be the foundation or primer that you are using is not that great for your skin.

Recently there has been an increase and demand for natural makeup. Makeup and beauty products still go unregulated for the most part. Makeup companies can still put many unsafe ingredients like sulfates, phthalates, parabens, and even formaldehyde!

These harmful makeup ingredients are not only dangerous, but can cause skin irritation and acne. There are numerous skin conditions that are caused by harmful makeup ingredients. If you are one that often gets acne, has oily skin, or are looking for better types of products, start thinking about non comedogenic brands of makeup.

What is non comedogenic?

What exactly is non comedogenic? Why the recent increase in the desire for non comedogenic makeup and non comedogenic brands? In order to understand what non comedogenic is, we must first break down the word. A comedo or comedones (plural), are pimples! Or at least a type of pimple that appears on the skin. It is a type of acne, resulting from clogged pores. Pores are all over the skin, face, and body. They are small holes on the skin that you are able to see with a mirror or if you look very closely.

Pimples occur because bacteria and dead skin cells fill the pore and plug it up. Comedones could be whiteheads if they are closed at the skin’s surface, with a little white tip (hence the name whitehead). If the comedones is open at the skin’s surface and you are able to see the plugged darkened area, it is called a blackhead due to the melanin.

Non comedogenic means that it does not clog pores. They are able to create products that are oil free. This is great for those with oily skin or if you are prone to acne or skin irritation. Clogged pores results in acne. Non comedogenic will not clog pores causing acne.

What Does Non Comedogenic Mean for Beauty and Makeup Products?

The goal of non comedogenic is to not clog pores and to not cause acne. In order to do so, non comedogenic products are made oil-free. Our skin naturally creates and secretes oils. Non comedogenic help to maintain the balance of oils that we need, meanwhile removing the excess oils that clog pores and result in juicy, red pimples. It is  a great idea to use non comedogenic cleansers to remove makeup and wash your face at the end of the day.

Eat Non Comedogenic Foods!

What exactly does that mean? It is important to remember that we are what we eat. We need to be more mindful of what we are fueling our bodies with. Our diet and nutrition matters. Instead of eating processed foods, go for the vegetable option. A great thought to have before you choose your next meal is “Is this a healing food?” Try limiting sugar and fatty foods and instead go for a healthier option. What you eat and put in your body does have a direct correlation with how your skin will react. Take control of your skin and how you feel with a good nutrition and a healthy diet.
